KNOW HOPE Talks About "Temporary Residence", His Debut Solo Show in San Jose
Tel Aviv Graffiti and Street Art website has covered many Know Hope street works and group exhibitions, but when we heard his first solo show was happening , we had to know more. Tel Aviv Graffiti and Street Art(T.A.G.S)asked KNOW HOPE about his debut solo show happening tomorrow in San Jose, CA and here's what he had to say:
T.A.G.S: First of all, let me congratulate you on your first solo show! I am sure it will be incredible! Can you explain the name of the show and its meaning?
KNOW HOPE: I think the name of the show (Temporary Residence), this time around, is quite literal. There is this timeless timeliness that composes our existence, and for that matter, everything around us as well. what was dramatic yesterday is nostalgic today, so in a way we are creating our future memories based on the fact that a current moment is something that will disappear or change form. the whole idea of "home", as something that is usually meant to make for a foundation, gets a whole new perspective when being replaced by the word "residency".these common moments, these specific time frames make for our temporary residency, in a way.
T.A.G.S: Why San Jose for your first solo and what's up with Gallery A.D.?
KNOW HOPE: Anno Domini aka Gallery AD is a really cool gallery located in san jose, CA. The gallery first opened in 2000 and has been showing great artists and supporting the independent art scene ever since, alongside many other efforts to promote art and creative innovation outside of the gallery as well. the good folks responsible for all this, Cherri and Brian, are great and have a really good thing going, and when they offered me my first solo show, it felt just right to have it with them.
T.A.G.S: What works will be shown and what's the Gallery A.D. space like?
KNOW HOPE: I'll be doing a site specific installation in the space alongside a group of new pieces made specially for this show. the space is an old movie theater turned gallery, so it makes for quite an interesting space to work in.
We wish KNOW HOPE all the best with his debut solo show, "Temporary Residence"

REUSE PROJECT 2 : Tel Aviv
The REUSE PROJECT 2 here in Tel Aviv was a great success and has accomplished its goal to raise public awareness about the issues of abandoned and publicly forgotten spaces in the process. REUSE PROJECT 2, like the first REUSE PROJECT in Jerusalem last year, has become a larger challenge to the public and an exercise in space liberation, urban renewal, and guerrilla art. Its about giving back something positive to the community and making a social statement through our expressions at the same time.
Although disappointing, we had anticipated the closing to be inevitable because most "post-industrial cities" are too close minded about reuse concepts of this kind and proportion, mainly because of its capitalist nature, it just doesn't have the money (what it calls "resources") to rehab buildings, when the real resource of any populated area is the population itself...so the closing is part of the exhibition too...we have had many local people tell us about the closing with frustration...and its actually a good thing for raising even more awareness of the neglected space issues within Tel Aviv as well as showing people the inefficiency of using capitalism (and any imitation of it) as the only tool to reuse these places (their are abandoned and forgotten buildings all over the world!).
So, in summary, after twelve days of showing...REUSE PROJECT 2's door may come open again but not in relation to our show here but we hope that the next time the those doors open that it will be as an action of the people, perhaps by those who want it to be open because they now see the value and potential of the no longer forgotten space...
Again...thanks to all of you who helped to manifest this project and its vision! REUSE, RESIST, and INSPIRE!

C215 in Tel Aviv
Tel Aviv and Jerusalem streets this week are host to over 30 new street portraits from Parisian street artist C215.
AN INTERVIEW GIVEN TO ARTASTY.COM (MARCH 2008)
C215, is it a code? Why this name?
C215 corresponds to my name Chris, but could also be a cell number in which I could have spent too much time
Where are you from? What's your background?
I am originally from Paris, I've studied a lot, with 2 masters in history and art, and some foreign languages. I used to work in export, in the decoration area. It was a bit too much for me and I decided to quit everything when my daughter, Nina was born, and came back to my true passion.
How would you define your work and what inspires you?
I do stencil on all supports and the street is what I prefer. My favourite’s artists are the classics of the big centuries and for the more modern ones Pignon Ernest stay the basis. Next, there were meetings and shocks, Carricondo, Swoon, and my friend Dan23 with whom I evolved for the last 2 years
What are the essential tools you use to create your pieces?
Everything I find. I do not have any definite tools. I like to build my work depending in contexts and this applies to the tools I also use.
How do you choose your images and where they are placed in the street?
My images are the result of meeting with models and photographers. They all mean something, the beggars, the refugees, the orphans. Broken people rejected by the society and capitalism. I placed these images in "nonplaces", in the streets and on devalued supports, tagged and rusty doors, teared paste-up, broken or burned walls and some bins that I particularly like.

Recycled paper is the main reuse medium so that non-local artists can make their work as large as they like as well... there is an ample amount of space available on the site...
